  • Petteri Mäkelä is an International Affairs Officer with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). He joined the Agency in September 2007.
  • Dr Mäkelä’s work focuses on establishing and maintaining ECHA’s relations with countries outside the European Union and cooperation with international bodies.
  • Before joining the Agency Dr Mäkelä spent more than ten years of working in the field of product safety and regulatory affairs in chemical and downstream user industries.
  • Petteri Mäkelä has a PhD in environmental toxicology and an MBA in business administration.

  • Besides, she is familiar with use analysis and supply chain communication under Chemical Regulation, and has good experience to support companies for downstream user communication and information transformation on supply chain.

Ms. Lepisto holds honours degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics and built her career managing global compliance and best practice systems for HES (Health, Environmental, Safety), Product Stewardship, and Sustainability.

Before working with the WERCS Professional Services and the WERCS, she collected over 20 years of industrial experience, which includes:
  • Positions of regional and worldwide responsibility with specialty and commodity chemicals users and manufacturers.
  • Lobbying and educational missions as a member and past vice chair of the task force for Global Regulations and Capacity Building task force of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC).
  • Diverse experience in regulatory issues such as TSCA, including 5(e) consent orders and 8(c) allegations; management of permitting/start-up of 6 plants, including a RCRA part B thermal treatment facility and a facility subject to OSHA Process Safety Management/EPA Risk Management Program; pollution prevention audits, planning and technology; and emergency response and crisis communications.
  • Sharing expertise, especially in emerging regulations in Europe and Asia Pacific, as a speaker at events such as ChemCon, the SOCMA/ACC Global Chemical Regulation Conference, and other venues.

She is an American living with her husband in Berlin, Germany since 1998.
